Pranayama & Yoga Nidra

Pranayama is the practice of breath regulation. In Sanskrit, prāṇa means "vital life force", and yāma means to observe or control. In yoga, breath is associated with prāṇa, thus, pranayama is a means to elevate and harmonize the prāṇa ṣhakti, or our life force. In this practice we will begin with Pranayama clearing the body and mind of accumulated ‘busy-ness” tensions or stress, we will connect with our life force, allowing us to settle more easily into and receive the benefits of the Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice of which today there are many variations, however it was first brought to us in its modern form, from the Vedas by Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati in the 1950’s/60’s. The term Yoga Nidra is derived from two Sanskrit words, yoga meaning union or single-pointed awareness, and nidra meaning sleep. Practiced whilst lying down Yoga Nidra is a systematic practice of purification, working deeply on physical, mental and emotional layers allowing you to cultivate deep healing. When we are in the ‘Nidra’ state between sleep and wakefulness, the body sleeps but the awareness remains active allowing contact with both the subconscious and the higher conscious. Yoga Nidra is recognised as having many health benefits, it is used widely today as a tool in pain management, PTSD and for the relief of insomnia, anxiety and illnesses related to inflammation and chronic stress.

Yin Yang Yoga
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Josie Yeo

This Yin + Yang session brings together the benefits of passively holding Yin yoga poses with more dynamic Yang sequences and asanas. It is beginner friendly. The principle of Yin and Yang evolved into the idea that all things in the universe exist as inseparable and contradictory opposites. When Yin and Yang are in harmony, balance is achieved. With motion, comes the appreciation of stillness and vice versa. During the session, our muscles will be engaged through Yang movements to build stamina and blood flow. It is followed by Yin where we work on releasing tension and increasing circulation to the connective tissues and joints to create a more balanced energy.
